Professor Julie Guthman wins 2019 Meridian Book Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work

Community Studies Professor Julie Guthman's book Wilted: Pathogens, Chemicals, and the Fragile Future of the Strawberry Industry has won the 2019 American Association of Geographers Meridian Book Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work in Geography. Wilted discusses the future of the California strawberry industry, which according to Guthman, is built on access to land, cheap labor, pesticides, and agreeable climate conditions—all of which are in jeopardy today. The award is to be presented to Professor Guthman during the American Association of Geographers Yearly Conference later this month.
