Major Declaration

To declare the Community Studies major, students qualify by satisfactorily completing:

  1. CMMU 10, Introduction to Community Activism.
  2. At least one Upper Division Topical Course from the approved list of courses.
  3. Satisfactory completion is defined by a grade of C.  Major qualification courses must be taken for a letter grade.

CMMU BA Declaration Process:

  1. Log into MyUCSC and submit the Petition for Major/Minor via MyUCSC as soon as you have met major qualification requirements and/or reach your declaration deadline quarter, whichever comes first.
    • If you are not yet logged into MyUCSC, the petition can also be accessed by going to MyUCSC and navigating to the Student Homepage and selecting the Undergraduate Student eForms tile > Petition for Major/Minor.
  2. Students must complete an Academic Planning Form and submit the plan for review. Submit your Academic Planning Form both to this Submission Form and to the CMMU Program Advisor by sharing the google sheet to Reference the Academic Planning page for guidance on making an Academic Plan.
  3. CMMU Program Advisor will review your academic plan, your petition to declare and will reach out by way of email with next steps and feedback.

Students are also encouraged to meet with the CMMU Program Director to review their academic plan and discuss field study possibilities and appropriate courses to meet topical requirements. Students must submit their approved academic plan and declaration petition to the Community Studies Program Advisor before applying for field study. Any change to the student’s academic plan must be approved by the program.
