Scholarships and Awards

In addition to the financial aid which is available to eligible UCSC students and which is available for eligible students who are on full-time field study, students may also apply for a number of other special scholarships and fellowships to help defray the costs associated with full-time field study. Information about the following campus funding sources can be obtained in the department office.

 


The Nancy Pascal Field Study Scholarship

Awarded annually to students who participate in field study programs. The scholarship is intended to encourage and support real-world experiences that complement formal academic requirements. After 32 years of dedicated service to UC Santa Cruz in the Registrar's Office, Nancy Pascal has retired. In honor of her retirement, Nancy has established the scholarship

The Koffend Fund Field Study Scholarship

Awarded annually to one or more students to help support their field study. Application deadline is early spring quarter; check the department bulletin board or website for deadlines.

The President's and Provosts' Undergraduate Fellowship

Contact your college Provost for information.


The Chancellor's and Deans' Undergraduate Award

These awards recognize outstanding achievements by undergraduate students within an academic division (Arts, Engineering, Humanities, Physical & Biological Sciences, Social Sciences). Ten Deans' Awards are given to students within each division. Of those students, up to three in each division can be selected to receive a Chancellor's Award.

The Steck Award

An award honoring the finest senior thesis completed during the academic year. The Steck Award winner is chosen from the Chancellor's Award candidates.


The Joel Frankel Memorial Scholarship

Awards grants to UCSC students who are planning to pursure field studies in Latin America or within Spanish speaking communities in the United States. The purpose of the fund is to learn from and assist in social change initiatives originating in Latin America and/or Latino communities.

William Friedland Award

Awarded anually to the student who exemplifies the social and academic commitment embodied in the Department Professor Friedland founded in 1969. Names of nominees are submitted by their faculty advisor, and the department selects from among those nominiated

The Donald A. Strauss Scholarship

The Strauss Foundation awards scholarships to students from selected four-year California colleges and universities who have demonstrated an interest in public service, have outstanding leadership potential, and are in the upper one-third of their class.
