The Catalano award honors alumni whose life and work has served as an example of the mission of Oakes College by virtue of their commitment to effect positive social change in their own communities. Barbara worked with migrant farm workers on her full time field study, an experience that inspired her to found Salud Para la Gente in Watsonville in 1989.
