New Traditions

January 27, 2015

The Community Studies B.A. Program is inaugurating a new tradition to mark its revival as the longest running interdisciplinary degree program at UCSC and (if that weren't enough) to celebrate its pioneering academic curriculum of campus and field study learning dedicated to social justice.

On Thursday, January 29, from 6-8pm, the Community Studies class of 2015 will present its work in a classic poster session in Oakes College.

The field study cohort has just returned from six-month field studies in places far (e.g., New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle) and near (Oakland, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara) working on social justice issues as varied as homeless youth advocacy, street level health care and immigrant rights.  At the January 29 event, each of the 24 students will showcase their field work and emerging analyses on individual posters lining the second floor hallway of the Oakes College academic building.
