I was born in Sao Paulo Brazil. In 1990 after the first democratically elected president came into office there was much turmoil in Brazil. My family decided to leave the country. I moved to Chicago when I was 7 and lived there for six years. I began my schooling in Chicago and attended a bilingual English and Spanish school. It was during this time of my life that I first realized the injustice that illegal immigrants face. My mother and many of her friends, who became pregnant in the United States, never received the proper pre-natal care and many had home abortions. At Mount Holyoke College, I majored in Anthropology and did research on immigrants and health issues. I was also involved with the college Radio Station where I hosted a weekly radio Show for three years. In the summer of 2005 I had the opportunity to intern with the Media Education Foundation where I was an assistant producer to the documentary "Big Bucks, Big Pharma." I hope to produce audio documentaries for radios stations informing illegal immigrants about health related resources they can use and also share with the wider public the horrendous mistreatment immigrants face when trying to navigate the health care system in the United States.
