Social Documentation Program Graduate Students

Briana O'Higgins

Biography

Briana was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, but left at the age of 18 and fell in love with the Midwest region of the US. She received a B.A. from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH and attended the Salt Institute of Documentary Studies in Portland, ME. Briana has worked as an intern, administrative assistant, operations assistant, youth radio manager, and host at WYSO radio in Ohio and currently works as a fill in host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered at KUSP public radio in Santa Cruz. Briana's academic interests are in disability theory, queer theory and theories of the body. She plans to continue exploring chronic illness, disability, space, place and time in her master's thesis for the Social Documentation program. After the program, she plans on ditching the waves, mountains, and sun for the extreme beauty of the Midwest.
