Teresa Kurtak

Biography

Born to entomologist parents in Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa, Teresa Kurtak is highly influenced by her multi-national childhood and struggles with her national identities. From West Africa she moved to a small town in rural eastern Washington where the family ran a small farm. Her love of diverse cultures and background in agriculture have led to what is more than a minor obsession with endangered agricultural systems and the ways of life, foods, and cultures that accompany them. She plans on pursuing her research interests in dissappearing / threatened foods of West Africa. Teresa did her undergraduate work in Sociology / Anthropology and Fine Arts. Though in the past her chosen medium has been painting/illustration, she is delighted to be exploring her voice in film/video. At present Teresa is both a graduate student and farmer in Santa Cruz.
