Full-time Internship The goal of the full time internship is to help prepare students for careers in the area of social change. We believe that it is important for our students to integrate theory and practice in their pursuit of knowledge about the social change process. In addition to the classroom work offered through the program, one of the requirements of the major is a six-month full-time internship working with a community group or agency on a social change issue of the student's choice. During the six-month period, student interns work under the direct supervision of the community group that sponsors the placement. Since the full-time internship acts as the student’s entire course load for the quarter, many students will leave the Santa Cruz area for the duration of their internship and some may even go as far away as another country, depending on the type of work in which they are interested and their language skills. The organization is expected to write letters evaluating the student's work following three and six months of work. The students get academic credit for the time they spend in their fieldwork. When students return to campus they are required to do a senior project that relates to their field study. We encourage them to do something that is useful to the group that sponsored them (e.g., funding proposals, educational materials, school curricula, slide shows, a documentary, etc.) For more information, or to find out how to list your organization as a full time placement for our students, please contact: Florencia Marchetti , Assistant Field Studies Coordinator or Michael Rotkin, Field Studies Coordinator We are happy to receive materials about your program addressed to: Field Study Coordinator Thank you for your interest in working with our program!
