Tia Lessin was a producer of Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," winner of the Palme d'Or, and Academy Award-winning "Bowling for Columbine." She line produced Martin Scorsese's "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" and was coordinating producer of "The Big One."
She began her film career as associate producer of Charles Guggenheim's Oscar-nominated film "Shadows of Hate," produced for The Southern Poverty Law Center Teaching Tolerance program.
A former labor organizer, Tia was awarded the Sidney Hillman Prize for Broadcast Journalism for "Behind the Labels," a documentary she directed about labor trafficking in the U.S. garment industry for the human rights group Witness. Last year, Tia received a Katrina Media Fellowship from the Open Society Institute to promote a national conversation on racism and inequality in America with her new documentary film, "Trouble the Water."
She is a Sundance Lab Fellow.
Tia's work as a producer of the groundbreaking satirical television series "The Awful Truth" earned her two Emmy nominations -- and one arrest. |
